At the end of a long day, everyone likes to get into their own bed and feel comfortable. It’s a personal space that is arranged as individuals see fit and where total relaxation can occur. It’s exactly the same for a dog. For dog owners there’s nothing better than seeing your dog climb onto its bed and fall fast asleep. It warms the heart and always raises a smile.
Gone is the practice of putting a dog out for the night as pets are treated increasingly like one of the family and welcomed inside. While some working dogs do live in dog cages outside, it is important to make the family pet dog comfortable and wanted. Providing a dog bed is exactly the way to do this, as the animal will have some place to call home.
The amount of dog beds available is astonishing. There’s everything from plastic dog beds to wicker ones, bean bags, mats and even dog crates. They are available in all colours of the rainbow and in a plethora of designs and sizes. While some owners insist on buying gemstone encrusted pillows and baskets made of the highest quality wood, the dog won’t care about any of it. As long as the bed is comfortable, warm and has the dog’s scent is all that matters.
But why should an owner spend money on a bed when the floor is just as good? Well, dogs have very sensitive joints and bones at the best of times so lying on the floor for long periods, such as overnight, can cause a lot of pain. Think about it this way- would you sleep on a bed without a mattress? The answer is highly unlikely because it would be uncomfortable. The same goes with dogs. Providing somewhere comfortable for them to sleep is a big help in keeping pressure off joints and minimising pain. So this means buying a bed and a blanket or pillow to go in it!
Obviously when going out to buy a dog bed, the size of the dog is the most important aspect to consider. It’s no good buying a small bed for a big dog and vice versa. While buying the cheapest one possible is tempting, you should keep in mind cheap doesn’t always mean good. Different designs do vary in price, for example plastic dog beds are considerably cheaper than wicker ones. Bean bags are also a very affordable option. While you can pick up some good items from regular furniture stores, when it comes to the essentials it’s always better to go to a pet shop.
Keeping your dog fit and healthy is a priority. It all starts with making sure the animal has a comfortable place to sleep that doesn’t put pressure on joints or bones. Allowing a dog to relax in its own space is important, and will lead to a good natured animal. Dog beds then make for happy dogs, which in turn makes for happy owners!

Why is it important to give your favorite four-legged friend a place of his own? Your dog’s bed will benefit your dog’s sleep, comfort, and health for years to come. Many pet owners think that a dog bed is an optional item. However, having a pet bed is an essential item. Dogs spend a good part of every day sound asleep. The comfort and health of your dog depends on a quality sleep. There are many benefits for you and your dog.
Security
Dogs can feel anxious especially when their owner is away. Providing your pet with a special place to call his own will give him a sense of security. It also provides a private area for your dog. Your dog will love the fact that he has a place that is just for him, and in return he might be less likely to curl up on your furniture or bed.
Health
Just like humans, dogs appreciate comfort also. Older dogs as well as younger dogs can start to suffer from joint pain, arthritis and hip problems. Lack of quality sleep can also cause an unwillingness to go for walks and exercise. Make sure to buy the right size dog bed for your best friend. Big dogs need large dog beds! A dog bed’s soft, comfortable cushions feel just as great on a dog’s joints as a mattress or body pillow provides comfort and support for humans. A typical dog bed elevates the animal above the hard ground, supports essential joints and provides a degree of warmth. You may want to consider a orthopedic dog bed.
Warmth
Dogs will benefit from the extra layers of warmth and insulation off the bare floor especially during the night and cold winter months. A pet bed also provide essential support from a hard cold floor. Although dogs will sleep on a floor, it is often uncomfortable for them. Consider how you would feel sleeping on the cold floor with nothing but a blanket. This is usually the reason that they sneak onto the furniture the minute you leave the house and because it smells like you. Most dogs will sleep at the foot or side of their owner’s bed, on a favorite blanket or cushion placed in a warm part of the room away from drafts.
Position
Should your dog be allowed to sleep in your bed, with you? Probably not, where your dog sleeps is important to their emotional and physical health, as well as to your family’s. Some animal behaviorists say letting your dog sleep with you is a bad idea and sometimes upset the chain of command because the dog may get delusions of grandeur and dominance problems can arise. A dog bed lets your dog know where he is sleeping. You might consider and your dog may enjoy, several dog beds in other rooms where the family comes together.
Protection
A dog bed will provide protection for your furniture. When your dog is sleeping on your furniture, it affects the appearance and condition of your furniture, and as we mentioned earlier it affects your dog’s joints where he jumps up and down off high furniture. Not to mention bothersome pet hair on the furniture. For this reason, you’ll definitely want a cover that be removed from the mattress, and that is 100% machine washable. It should also be durable enough to deal with sharp claws, and stain resistant.
In conclusion, your dog will be spending an awful lot of time in his or her bed, so it’s important that you select the right one. So remember, when buying a pet bed for your dog, you need to take numerous things into consideration: your dog’s breed, dog’s age (puppy, adult, senior), dog’s size, dog’s health and where you plan on using the bed. Buying the right kind of bed and maintaining it properly can go a long way to your dog’s health and happiness, and maybe even your own.

Choosing the supplies needed for training a cat need not be expensive. What is important is to know the supplies that are really needed for training and are found to be the most effective. Choosing the cat training supplies needed is never complicated. The only thing that needs to be considered is to determine what the cat owner would like to improve in the behavior of the cat.
Here are the most important supplies needed for training:
1. Litter Box
A litter box is very important in training a cat especially if the cat will be trained to litter in a proper place. When choosing a litter box, the size of the box and the sides should be considered. The cat should be able to jump to it easily, which is why enough space is needed. Cats scratch when littering. The sides should have some height so that the litter will not be scattered when the cat scratches.
2. A Scratching Post
Cats love to scratch. Much of the time they scratch anywhere they like. They scratch on the walls, couches and even on other furniture. Therefore, it is necessary to have a post where a cat can scratch. A scratching post can be bought commercially or the owner can improvise.
When making an improvised scratch post, the post should be sturdy enough. It should not tip over once the cat touches it. It can be covered with a rough mat or the other side of a carpet. However, it is not recommended to use the same coverings used for the couches or furniture otherwise, the cat will do the same to them.
3. Bed for the Cat
A bed should be also be prepared for a cat especially if the cat is be trained not to sleep anywhere he wishes. A bed should be specially made for the cat. The trainer or cat owner can improvise a bed that is made of a soft pillow. It should be inviting and appealing to the cat. Cats love to sleep in warm places. That is why it is important that the bed should provide enough warmth for the cat. A scent can also be added to the bed, which is more appealing to cats.
4. Yarn or Balls as Toys
When teaching a cat some tricks. The best tools are the yarns and balls. Cats love to play with things that are light and moving. There are toys that are specially made for cats but yarns and small balls are the cheapest yet most effective.
Getting a Great Deal on Your Next Motorcycle ? The Puppy Dog
So what do puppies have to do with negotiating for a motorcycle? It is assumed that you want to get your bike for the least amount of your money, and that you are looking out for your own best interests. However, you might be unwittingly working against yourself if you are unaware of a strong emotional force present in every transaction.
** The following is excerpted from the book, The Perfect Motorcycle: How to Choose, Find and Buy the Perfect New or Used Bike. The information provided here will give you a framework to guide your motorcycle purchases. Space limitations preclude an in-depth discussion of the subject. Professional sellers know many ways to tip the scales in their favor and get the most money for their products. Professional selling methods include techniques to close the sale to prospective buyers, appropriately called “closes.” The Puppy Dog Close is the most powerful closing technique used by sellers to win an emotional commitment and to even have the prospect help sell the product to them. But, what the pros don’t tell you is that this technique can be used on either side—you can also use this approach in your favor. It is also important to realize that this emotional mechanism is in play in every sale, even when a professional isn’t involved.
Here’s how the close got its name: You walk past a pet store window, and see a pen full of puppies and think they’re cute. You also consider their training, how their cries will wake you up, and the expense for their food, vet care, leashes, collars, and grooming. People don’t like change. You were doing fine before you walked past, and it will take effort to change the current situation. The scale will tip in favor of the seller and you will take action to take a puppy home, only if the every one of the objections you have to dog ownership are overcome. You are looking for reasons not to get a puppy.
The savvy pet shop owner picks up a dog you were looking at, approaches you, hands you the puppy and says, “I see you were looking at this puppy. I know it’s hard to decide. I’ll tell you what. I’ll lend you a dog pillow, a leash, a food bowl, a book about this type of dog, and I’ll give you a week’s worth of kibble. You can take the dog home to see how it works out. Bring it back in a week, if you don’t want it, and I’ll refund all your money.” Now, if you take the dog home, you will have crossed an emotional line. You will look for every reason to keep the puppy.
The scale has been tipped in favor of the seller. Again, people don’t like change. It would take a lot for you change the current situation and return the dog to the shop. So, you get a little howling or chewing on the coffee table? No biggie. Even your brother-in-law does that. Heck, in the last week, you showed “your” dog to all your friends, took pictures of it to share with coworkers, and even named it. The dog is emotionally yours, and you are invested in taking responsibility for it. You are now working for the seller in the negotiation, and the sale is almost certainly closed.
In professional sales, the seller uses techniques to get you to emotionally “own” the product. They will get you to imagine yourself enjoying the benefits of ownership. They will get you to sit on the bike and imagine what it would feel like to be on the open road. They will use language to paint a mental picture like, “What do you think your buddies will say when you ride up on your new bike?” and “Won’t it be great after a long day’s ride, sitting in your garage with a cold beer, looking at your beautiful bike parked next to your workbench?” “Let’s see if we can get the manager to get you test ride on your bike.” Once you emotionally cross the line and own this bike in your mind, you begin doing their job for them.
The “puppy dog close” is used by marketers and sellers every day in many ways and guises you might not have considered. Common examples are; moneyback guarantees, trial subscriptions, first-month free rebates, test drives, and introductory prices. These programs are used to lower the cost or risk of acquiring the product and get the consumer emotionally owning it while additionally making it difficult to undo the new relationship.
The bottom line of all this puppy talk is you need to be aware of this impulse in yourself, and emotionally disconnect yourself from the outcome of the negotiation to get the best deal. Regardless of the source you decide to buy from, reseller, individual, or auction—if you picture yourself with this bike in your driveway, stop! Motorcycles are just products, like a can of soup, or a piece of lumber. Your words are important, too. What you say and what you feel can be different. You can say, “I want to buy this” but you could really mean. “I want to get the best deal.”
Think about how you could use this puppy dog strategy in reverse as a buyer. Once you have convinced the seller that you are likely to buy that motorcycle, he will look for reasons to finish the sale with you rather than someone else. So, if you say, “I’ll take it,” and if the buyer believes you will, you now have the upper hand and can negotiate from a stronger position. Up to the point where the title transfer is signed, you have the ability to tell the seller you changed your mind. In some states, you can even change your mind up to a couple of days later if you have buyer’s remorse. Of course, if you decide to “puppy dog” the seller, you should only do so if you really want to buy the motorcycle and the terms of the deal are close to those you want.
Now that you are aware of this technique, don’t let sellers “puppy dog” you, and don’t haphazardly “puppy dog” sellers, either. You shouldn’t disappoint people for sport by reneging on a purchase, but you can often wring a few concessions on a bike you want to buy by continuing to negotiate after indicating that a deal has been struck.

Cats really, really, really love to scratch and that is no exaggeration either. If you’re a first-time owner of a cat, you’ll find that out as soon as you see your new furniture full of claw marks and your sofa and the pillows are shredded and torn to pieces. Cats scratch for a variety of reasons. The obvious reason is for marking their territory. Cat’s paws leave their scent and every time they scratch something their scent stays there. Scratching is also an exercise for them; you’ll usually see their love for scratching every time they wake up from a nap.
The first response to this is confining your cat to some place where she can’t damage new furniture or scratch anything valuable. This can be seen as a temporary solution only and can’t be permanent as cats love to wander around too. The best solution is a scratch post.
A scratch post is something you can buy or create yourself. There are several scratch posts on the market and you are sure to find something suitable for your cat. Remember, though, that a cat’s idea of something good to scratch at is different from your idea. Never ever make the mistake of buying something expensive just because you think it looks good or looks exactly like your sofa.
An excellent post is something where your cat can fully stretch her body and should be stable. Once your cat starts scratching on it and it topples over, you can be sure that she won’t return to it.
After buying one, the next step for you is to train your cat to scratch it. Never make the mistake of forcing her claws to scratch the post. Your cat is just like a child and showing her something she knows how to do is something that can make your cat behave aloof to you for a couple of days.
One suggestion is to put the post where your cat used to scratch. For example, if she loves scratching your wooden chair, then put it close to your chair. Other places include a place close to where your cat is sleeping so she’ll have some thing to scratch after her nap. This won’t work at all times, though, so you have to do something clever to entice her to scratch the post.
One of the best solutions is to rub catnip into it. This will have her happily digging at the post in no time. If this doesn’t really appeal to your cat, don’t lose hope because there are other ways. Some cats just don’t love catnip and won’t be fooled easily by this treat.
Another way is to associate the post with something fun. Put some food treats around it or dangle some toys that will entice her to reach out for the toy and inadvertently scratch the post. You must remember to praise your cat every time she scratches your post so she will remember that scratching the post is both fun and agreeable to you.
Another way to “fool” your cat into scratching the post is to play games with her running around the scratch post. Once she finds that scratching the post is better than playing your game, don’t feel bad as you have done your job of “fooling” your cat into using the scratch post.
Of course you can try to train them directly to scratch the post. You can give the order to “scratch” and point to the post while you give the order and every time your cat scratches the post give her a treat and praise her loudly so she can be proud of pleasing you.
Once your cat starts using the scratch post, the next step is to prevent her from scratching your furniture. You could do this by covering your furniture with aluminum foil or double-sided tape. These are surfaces that your cat will find not so good to scratch and she will soon realize not to scratch things other than her scratch post.
The only thing to remember is that to prevent your cat from scratching your furniture is to provide her with something better to scratch.
The first thing a cat owner should know about home décor is to keep it simple. Cats are completely convinced that they are in charge, that the house and its possessions belong to them, and that they have every right to break rip or shred anything they like. Even a well trained cat (a possible oxymoron) will occasionally get overzealous, and with an inadvertent sweep of their tail will knock your favorite decoration from its place to a pile on the floor.
This disregard for your possessions, overt or otherwise, requires that you use some strategy when deciding on the placement of various decorative pieces. This is going to amount basically to common sense. Any surface that a cat can reach, they will walk on. Therefore low shelves or dressers should not contain any objects that are fragile. Items should be moved towards the middle of a surface, or back against the wall, to prevent them being knocked onto the floor. Items that have a broad or sturdy base should replace other more top heavy objects. Decorative accents that can shatter, such as ceramics or stone statues, may have to be replaced by steal or wood.
One way to display fragile items is to move them up. High shelves that are isolated from cat “stepping stones” will be out of dangers way. The same may be true of tall dressers, although unfortunately some cats will take a tall isolated dresser as a personal challenge, which they simply have to climb. Your décor will have to be matched to the personality of your cat.
Mirrors can also provide a problem, as some cats tend to attack their own reflection. If your cat has a problem with this, buying velvet or satin cloth and draping it over the mirror can be a decorative way to solve this.
Plants can be one of the biggest décor problems a cat owner will face. Your pet can chew on leaves, dig in the soil, or urinate in them. Luckily, there are ways both to decorate around these problems as well as to train your cat out of them. For biting and chewing of leaves, a natural spray repellent applied to the plant will cause most cats to avoid it. To stop a cat from rooting in or excreting in your plant you have to realize that the dirt in the pot is reminiscent of the cats litter box. In order to change this, use stones or gravel to fill over the top of the dirt. This will remove the cat’s fascination with the soil, and can be a lovely decorative accent to your plant
Cat grass is a special kind of plant you can grow in your home that is specifically formulated to be safe for felines, and to provide them with certain vitamins they may be lacking. Purchasing this can give your cat an acceptable alternative to messing with your plants. When you see your cat eating the cat grass, reward them lavishly. When you see them going near other plants, pick them up and place them in front of the cat grass. If they eat the offered vegetation, then reward them. In this way you can use positive reinforcement to turn one behavior into another
Cats will scratch anything which is made of cloth, including couches, drapes, and pillows. Because of this, you may want to start by spraying natural cat repellent on your more attractive pieces. A plastic couch cover may have to be used for a short time while the cat learns to behave itself. Buying your pet a scratching post and praising it for scratching that instead of your couch is a good way to positively reinforce the negative behavior out of the cat. You will have to carefully monitor their progress, and only remove protective coverings from your furniture when you are sure they are safe.
While cats are a hazard to most décor, planning ahead can minimize these problems. Cats are so difficult to train that it is often easier to simply decorate around them. Using common sense, and paying attention, should allow you to develop a setting that compliments your pet owning experience.
Pillow pets combine the practicality of pillows with the kind of bond associated with actual pets, seemingly giving the lifeless pillow a personality making great cuddly friends for owners of them. At least with one of these, there is no limit to the destinations to which they can accompany you, unlike real pets, be it on long plane rides or boring road trips, when u go shopping or during a sleep over at your friend’s house.
They even have straps which when closed make them a real teddy bear – what more could one want? Undo the strap and there, you have yourself a beautiful pillow.
Pillow pets are made from such soft fabrics that they feel like a fur coat does on your skin and are suitable for all ages, not just for toddlers. They are machine washable and should be air dried.
There are pillow pets that are made as neck pillows and are perfect for travelers. Others are pillow pet blankets that have their greatest appeal to children as do the pillow pet back packs. Children select cartoon characters or particular animals that appeal to them as they come in great variety, from pandas to dolphins to frogs, and the list goes on.
Imitations also abound that makes an unbelievable offer of sometimes up to half the price of the originals and some even being sold at prices higher than those of the originals but their fabric and their lifespan end up as great disappointments.
Pillow pets are also bought by some to serve as beds for actual pets. Though the line started with just 6 brands on offer, customer demand has seen makers of them increase them to up to 20 different designs, and counting, that now cater for almost everyone’s needs.

Stuffed animals are one of children’s most favorite toys. These fun animals are great to have around, and sometimes go everywhere with your youngster. Since these animals are around for almost every event, even they get dirty and will need an occasional bath.
So how do you keep stuffed animals clean? Well here are some tips to keep them clean and in great shape:
First and most importantly read the care instructions that come with the stuffed animal on their label. Also take note of all materials the stuffed animal is made with.
Retailers of stuffed animals never personally recommend washing stuffed animals in the washer or dryer. What is highly recommended is to spray on a mild all-purpose cleanser or simply use soap and sponge it clean with a little water. Then leave your stuffed animal in the sun to dry.
However, many parents really feel like they need to wash stuffed animals in a washing machine to make them completely clean. So here are more tips if you desire to do so:
First, make sure none of your stuffed animals have the following before putting it in the washing machine:
* If a stuffed animal has excelsior, styrene foam, or any other form of foam material, such as foam beads, they must not be washed in the machine.
* If a stuffed animal has joints, or cardboard or any other form of stiffeners, do not put into a machine or they can be destroyed.
* If a stuffed animal has a sound box, please do not put this into a machine or any other form of major water.
* If a stuffed animal is really large, very firm, or has a lot of stuffing please remove the stuffing by cutting a 5-6 inch area in the bottom of the animal. This is important because the stuffing will most likely shift and cause the animal to lose its shape. Plus washing this much stuffing will take a very, very long time to dry. After cleaning, sew up the area and make sure no stuffing will fall out.
After reading the above and your stuffed animal does not fit into the first three categories, you may wash your animal in a washing machine. Before putting a stuffed animal into a washing machine, please make sure there are no loose items, such as button noses or eyes. Please also check to make sure that there are no openings where stuffing can come out, if so please sew up these areas securely first.
Before putting the stuffed animal into a washing machine, find a big enough pillow (or a sheet for big stuffed animals) and fasten all ends with rubber bands, safety pins or string. Please make sure all ends are secure to protect the fur of the stuffed animal. Plus it will keep any loose stuffing inside the pillow or sheet in case any falls out and can be re-installed.
After placing the stuffed animal into the washing machine, please only set the most delicate cycle to be washed. Fabric softener can be added and will make a softer and fluffier stuffed animal. Please be careful when washing other items with the stuffed animal, that there are no items that may bleed onto the stuffed animal making it a different color in the end. Also, if your stuffed animal is wearing clothes, please remove them and wash separately. This is important because the color of the stuffed animal’s fur can sometimes bleed onto the clothes they are wearing.
Tips on How to Clean Stuffed Animals without Using a Washing Machine:
* A great way to keep those precious stuffed animals fresh is to give it a dry bath with baking soda. Just sprinkle the baking soda on the stuffed animal. After 20 minutes simply brush the baking soda off. You may also use baby powder. This process will get smells out and clean off any surface dirt.
* For stuffed animals that have been badly stained or soiled, use a soft scrub brush with an all purpose cleaner.
* For stuffed animals with plastic parts that have spots or stains, you can use rubbing alcohol to remove them.
* For stuffed animals that have dust mites you can do the following:
Place your stuffed animal in a plastic bag. Then place it in a freezer overnight. If you have a big stuffed animal or do not have room in the freezer, you can wait to place it outside on a very cold night. The temperature has to be below freezing. The next day, remove the stuffed animal and vacuum gently but thoroughly.
Tips on How to Dry a Stuffed Animal:
When you have washed your stuffed animal or somehow the stuffed animal has become very wet, please never use a clothes dryer. This can damage the fur of the animal and can sometimes never be repaired. Please don’t risk loosing your child’s favorite animal, instead do the following:
The safest way is to let the stuffed animal air dry. This could take up to several days. However, sometimes you need that stuffed animal dry as soon as possible. So you can use a hair dryer, but be careful to not get too close to the animal’s fur and dry on the coolest setting available.
When a small amount liquid has spilled on a stuffed animal simply shake off loose liquid. Then pat dry with a towel or sponge.
With the care provided above, your clean stuffed animals will provide you and your child many years of fun and happiness. Good luck!
